January 2nd, Year 1
Staff and students at the University of Edinburgh are in mourning today after the confirmation that the fire which has consumed their historic library has also claimed three lives. The blaze, started on New Years, and which took over 12 hours to contain, is not believed to be linked to the bizarre events witnessed throughout the world that night. Sources within the police, already stretched to breaking by the New Year phenomenon, are examining the possibility of an electrical fault. The three members of staff killed have been named as senior librarian Michael Chambers and assistant librarians Jennifer Hayes and Annabeth Quinn, who had volunteered their time in order to ensure a recent refurbishment was completed in time for the return of students following the Christmas break.
